Brown Sugar

Can I use brown sugar in a chocolate recipe that calls for light brown sugar?

If you can not use the same amount the recipe calls for? More or less? The recipe calls for 1 1 / 4 cup light brown sugar, but I have only dark.

Yes you can. The only difference between the two is dark brown with more than light molasses brown. This will give the cookies a little stronger molasses flavor, but still tasteful. Use the amount the recipe calls for anyway.

Hot Rocks 1964-1971

Hot Rocks 1964-1971

$14.99

It’s the rare greatest-hits album that takes on a life of its own. Generally, best-of collections are superceded by updated retrospectives. Hot Rocks is one of the rare exceptions to the rule. Originally released in 1972, it instantly became the Stones intro of choice, elbowing aside Big Hits, High Tide and Green Grass and Through the Past Darkly. Why? It happened to hit the racks when Mick and co…

Brown Sugar

Brown Sugar

$3.88

D’Angelo is obviously inspired by the progressive soul of the early ’70s, but he has also borrowed carefully from the hip-hop of his own generation. Like many of his contemporaries, he has recorded a tribute to marijuana–the album’s title–but it’s far wittier than most. It takes the form of a conventional love song (“Brown sugar babe, I gets high off your love … that’s why my eyes are a shade …

Sugar Hill [VHS]

Sugar Hill [VHS]

$3.80

Roger Ebert tagged Sugar Hill as one of the best of 1994. Leon Ichaso’s film is not an action flick; no, this stylish drama wants to be a small gangster epic. Call it Roemello’s Way: a thoughtful drug lord (Wesley Snipes) wants to get out of his business but takes forever to do so. A Shakespearean tragedy slowly–far too slowly–evolves. While it has a definite street-smart sense, no new ground is…

Brown Sugar [VHS]

Brown Sugar [VHS]

$14.39

One of 2002′s most underrated films, Brown Sugar offers more than you’d expect from a conventional romantic comedy. The love story between Dre (Taye Diggs) and Sidney (Sanaa Lathan) is the least interesting part of the movie; the costars have delightful chemistry, but their hookup is a given. What’s refreshing is the way the story draws a parallel between Dre and Sidney’s longtime friendship (they…
