Today most candles are made from paraffin oil extracted from chemically are mostly long-chain hydrocarbons with a melting point of about 50 to 65 degrees Celsius. They are white unless artificially colored. Occasionally, beeswax candles can be found in this case the wax contains mainly long chain esters (combination of carboxylic acids and alcohols), which contains 40 to 50 carbon atoms. They are honey colored.
