Winter Forest
Winter in Majorca is party time
Mallorca, the largest of the Balearic Islands, is so well known they are virtually synonymous with sun, sea, sand and summer. Tourists from all over Europe flock to the Mediterranean, and about ten million each year to follow the example of the Spanish royal family and spend your holidays in Mallorca.
Visiting Mallorca in winter, however, can provide a good way to avoid the crowds and excellent opportunities to learn more of this beautiful island, especially for travelers seeking adventure sports and activities. The mild climate lends itself to outdoor activities all year round, so the popular pastimes of hiking, cycling, horse riding, sailing, diving and water sports – water skiing is very dear – are still available in the winter months and generally more comfortable to take part in when the weather is a bit cooler. Away from the beaches, the island boasts some stunning mountain scenery, pine forests and caves to explore.
Over Christmas and New Year, as in all Spanish territories Catholics, Mallorca has a wonderfully festive atmosphere with lots of entertainment and deals specifically for children. And the party is far from over in January – New Year's early, Spanish children celebrate the arrival of the Magi (the Reyes Magos), with a grand parade of the night, gifts and sweets is giving the following morning. Then, for a total of two weeks (14-29 in), the Balearic capital Palma comes alive with celebrations of its patron saint, Sebastian – is a perfect opportunity for visitors to see and participate in a traditional Spanish fiesta. Festivities include street parties with live music, bonfires and fireworks, costume parades and parties enormous outdoor barbecue.
Prices for accommodation accommodation at around € 20 per night in the 'low season' after the summer rush. Some tourist establishments focused most part, can be closed during the winter, but a massive selection of quality hotels Mallorca is open all year. Along with the three-and four-star all-inclusive beach hotels – more suitable for large groups of tourists – there are some exclusive, design hotels five star hotels and around the cities, converted mansions, mansions and villas are located.
Many of these hotels owned have excellent local cuisine, so are a good place to sample local specialties like paella of seafood, spicy sausage Sobrasada warming, mushrooms and olives, and the pride of the locals, almond cake and almond ice cream. There are also some fine wines, using mainly Tempranillo (Grenache) and local grape varieties Callet and Manto Black.
